What's Everybody Up To?

Hello my favorite fifth grade class! I'm sorry that I am behind on this. I was up north, even past Minneapolis, and I did not have the most ideal internet connections. So, to put it plain and simple, I want to know what you guys have been up to this summer!

Let's start with this post to share things we have been doing, places we've gone, and people we have seen. I'll start.

I started my break by going up to the biggest lake in the world (bonus points if you can tell me the name of the lake.) I spent time with my parents, my sister, my brother-in-law, my adorable nephew, and of course my dog. My fiance is in Kansas City still because her students have school for two and a half more weeks!

I am back in Minneapolis now and will be here for a couple of more days before heading back to KC to begin packing (not fun!) OK, now it's time for you guys to tell me what you have been up to...I miss you all!

You were in lake Superior? It is Halia. I was very upset when the last day came. I was upset about Cali going to Eastgate and I was upset about you moving. On Saurday, I had Cali over to stay the night. We played in the sprinkler and then we watched all of the twilight movies before falling asleep. In the morning my mom had to take BOTH of us to my Dad's house because she had to do a photoshoot. I haven't been much places. The only place I have been are my grandma and grandpa's house for Memorial Day and the zoo! I really miss all of you!

I was at Lake Superior, and it was wonderful! A little too cold to go swimming just yet, but beautiful to look at.

I was upset on the last day too Halia. I really meant what I said to you all though. As difficult of a change as this is, you want to view this new chapter in your life as something to look forward to and embrace. It's tough to leave behind friends and teachers that you have grown comfortable with. However, part of growing up is taking on new challenges. It's still part of being an adult. I'm going through a major change as well!

I'm very excited for you all though. You will love middle school, and you guys are ready. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us Halia, and I have to get to the zoo...I love the zoo!

I CAN NOT STOP THINKING ABOUT THE LAST LESSON IN SOCIAL STUDIES. Four score and Seven years ago is stuck in my head and I can't get it out of my head. My friends keep asking why I keep saying it. I tell i learned it from my favorite teacher, also for memorial day I went to my sister's house for a barbecue and a water slide party. well I just wanted to say hi. P.S. WILL YOU BE AT SUMMER SCHOOL IN 2 DAYS?

That's great Dayton! As I told you guys, The Gettysburg Address is one of the most powerful, significant, and memorable speeches in American history. Just think how cool it would be if you memorized the whole thing!

I will not be at XLT on Monday. However, I plan on being there sometime this coming week to move some stuff around. If you are there, I will come find you! Thanks for sharing!

Hey Mr. Aronson, how's it going? I'm just going to give an update on my athletic adventure. I went to this track and field event called Hershey's Track and Field. I participated in three events. They were standing long jump, 400 meter dash, and soft ball throw. In the soft ball throw I did not place unfortunately. I did make improvement in the standing long jump though. I jumped 6 foot 6 inches and a quarter. I got second in that event next to someone wearing cleats who got 6' 9". Then on the 400 meter dash I ran it in 1:13.68. In that event I got second next to someone who got 1:13.33. That was also the fastest I have ever run it by nine seconds. Hope you have a good summer break.

Brian said I could put something too :) Brian is working on learning the states and capitals (and correct spellings). (I don't remember if that was his idea or mine...well, the spelling was MY idea.) We made a quick trip to Illinois last weekend to see grandparents, and we stopped and played at a cool park in Columbia, MO. It has lots of big tires great for hiding in! Other than WOF and OOF, we're not doing much else yet. We are staying inside too much probably. Oh, he is reading for the summer reading program at Mid-Continent Public Library. We hope you are doing well and getting ready! :) Brian's mom

Hello Purkaples! Thanks for giving me some updates on what you are up to. Let's start with Brian.

My first question is, how many seconds separated you from the first place finisher? My second question is, when did you get so awesome at the 400? That is an outstanding time, and you should be extremely proud. Have they offered the high jump yet? I feel like you have a good stature for that event. Keep up the athletics Brian, they teach some excellent life skills.

Susan, good work pounding him with that spelling! His writing has come a long way, but everyone could use some fine tuning in spelling and conventions. Where did you go in Illinois? I absolutely love Chicago. Oh, and I'm not surprised he is part of the reading program. Brian was not redirected by me for the usual things in class. Rather, it was for reading at inappropriate times...if you can believe that!

Thanks for sharing guys, and keep the posts coming!

I guess it's time for me to leave another update. I had to come back up to Minnesota this week for a job interview. I will be teaching 5th grade in Apple Valley, MN. It is about 20-30 south of Minneapolis. I'm sure they will be great, but no way they can be as cool as my Meadowbrook kids!

I will be back in KC for just a few short days before I head back to Minnesota once again. I'm putting a lot of miles on my car! After that, it will be another road trip. Except this time, I will be heading east to North Carolina for the wedding.

After the wedding, we will head to the coast of North Carolina. We're going to check out Kitty Hawk. Five Dojo points to the first person that can tell me the significance of Kitty Hawk. I know how much you all still want those Dojo points!

Following that, we will drive northwest and head up to Lake Superior. By now you all know the significance of Lake Superior...right?

This has been a crazy summer for me so far guys. I will do my best to keep up with the blog and inform you of my travels. You all need to do the same! I miss everyone very much.

Oh, I almost forgot. This Thursday, June 14, I am planning on visiting the people at XLT. I am unaware of the timing just yet, but most likely around lunch time. XLT people, be ready!

Dear MR.Aronson,
Hi Mr. Aronson it's Halia. I want you to know that you've taught me so much. Not just about school but about life. You even helped me fix my friendship and that's something I will never be able to thank you enough for. I really do miss you. I keep dreaming about the last day of school and waking up upset. I hope you have an amazing wedding and love your new school in MN, just not as much as Meadowbrook of course! =)

Thank you Halia, that is very sweet of you to say. Believe it or not, you all taught me a lot as well. That was my goal, to have our classroom be an environment where everyone is a learner.

I am actually in North Carolina right now! I arrived a couple of days ago and my wedding is this Saturday. I will post some pictures from the trip I took in the mountains. I miss you all as well, and don't worry, no one will ever replace the students I had at Meadowbrook!

Thanks Tiana! I miss all of you very much. I keep a picture of our class on my desk at my new school. Things are going well for me and my new class. I have been doing the PRIDE lessons with them and making sure they know my expectations the way you all did. I think about you guys all the time, and I hope middle school is going great!
